Sela Pass welcomes travelers with fluttering prayer flags against towering snow-covered peaks. Adjacent to the pass is the sacred Sela Lake, which remains frozen for several months of the year, sparkling in the crisp high-altitude sun.

The 400-Year-Old Tawang Monastery

Founded in 1680-1681 by Merak Lama Lodre Gyamtso, the Tawang Monastery (Galden Namgey Lhatse) is perched at 10,000 feet, overlooking the Tawang Chu Valley. It houses an 18-foot gilded Buddha statue and precious ancient Buddhist manuscripts.
